The Rules for Traditional Wedding Invitations

The preparation for a wedding can be a long, drawn-out group of tasks. Many couples use planners for keeping track of what has been done and what needs to be done so nothing is left to chance. One of the first tasks couples deal with involves the wedding announcements.

They must be selected or created by the couple and sent out in a timely manner. This allows invitees to make the appropriate arrangements to attend or respond to the invitation.

What are the rules, or proper etiquette for wedding invitations?

While there are no particular rules for today’s wedding announcements, there are still rules of etiquette for traditional wedding invitations that are important to many couples.

Keep in mind that there are many ways to be creative with your invitations while still giving attention to the common courtesies. The following information will briefly discuss the various basic rules of etiquette for wedding invitation templates.

Information – The information on your wedding invitation should include the parties being united, the parents of the couple (traditionally), the location, date and time.

Inserts – There can be other inserts included in wedding invitations. For instance, the RSVP card and the reception card when the reception is located in a separate location from the ceremony. The reception card should include the location, date and time. Also ,include an envelope for the RSVP card.

Wording – Whether you are ordering your invitations from a bridal shop or creating your own with wedding invitation templates, it’s important to pay close attention to the wording on your invitations.

The font and text size used on your announcements are a personal choice. You can stick to basic fonts like Ariel or Times New Roman or use fonts that are stylish and classy like calligraphy or handwritten style fonts. A good rule of thumb for wording is to keep it basic and to the point.

Addressing – Traditionally, couples use family members or a service to hand address their wedding invitations. Invitations with handwritten addressing is personal and thoughtful. You don’t have to use fancy handwriting, but it should be neatly done.
